Stand For Education, Inc. intends to be a catalyst to enrich the systems of opportunity within impoverished and underdeveloped communities globally by providing access to educational opportunities, empowering girls and women, and promoting self sufficiency. By creating and executing effective programs, we will inject real and lasting change into the lives and communities of the people served. For our programs to be sustainable, our board will develop partnerships with various NGO's, corporations, and governments. Additionally, we will develop board-approved income generating activities to support the budget of our programs and projects.
South Sudan Peacebuilding and Advocacy - is a program designed to promote education and peace for the children of South Sudan. Through this program, STAND4ED is able to create projects which can benefit the South Sudanese communities. Our goals are to improve access to education, work with existing schools, provide school supply kits and build sustainable schools which will continue to function for future generations. By creating this program, we are able to give the children of South Sudan the tools to help them develop their new nation in order to lead South Sudan into a new era of peace and growth. SSPA is mainly about "conflict-sensitivity' and "peace building" built into different types of education. That means not just building schools but providing the RIGHT KIND OF EDUCATION within them.
The people - children, youth and adults, the whole community - need to be strengthened and empowered through education to know what to do to avoid conflicts, avoiding them escalating when they do start, how to endure the conflicts with strength and wisdom and how to calm them down. Therefore the SSPA program encompasses a whole spectrum of education programs that make sure to include:
EQUITY AND INCLUSION
EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT
LIVELIHOOD TRAINING/MICRO BUSINESS
STAND UP GIRL - Education provides girls with more opportunities for life, especially in areas of the world where child marriage, early motherhood, and poverty are prevalent.
Stand For Girls Education is a program that works to remove the obstacles preventing girls from leading healthy, empowered lives and attending school. Our aim is to work closely with girls by providing them with adequate education, basic health practice, sanitary products, mentoring, and life skills training. Additionally, we aim to respond to the needs of women and girls living in poverty by providing opportunities to be self suffcient, providing a voice and shedding light upon their struggles. Together, these efforts will increase attendance in school and empower women and girls, that all citizens in a community are able to contribute to and benefit from the opportunities of an improved life.
PROJECTS - We are on the ground working on three projects with our partner organizations:
Malek Primary School
ImpactAVillage funded Malek Primary School in Bor, South Sudan with the direction of Deng Jongkuch, one of the Lost Boys of Sudan. The elders of Malek agreed to donate and clear the land for the school in addition to having villagers help with the construction. Under the direction of a contractor hired by ImpactAVillage, the villagers cleared the land, dug the foundation, made bricks from cement and sand, and built the walls of the school. All the materials for the school including cement, lumber, rebar, and roofing material were purchased by ImpactAVillage. The 5-room school house was completed in 2010 and holds 700 students. The cost for the school was about $25,000 which was raised by generous donations to ImpactAVillage. Books, uniforms and teachers were also funded by ImpactAVillage.
