Education provides girls with more opportunities for life, especially in areas of the world where child marriage, early motherhood, and poverty are prevalent.
Stand For Education works to remove the obstacles preventing women from leading healthy, empowered lives. Our aim is to work closely with girls by providing them with adequate education, basic health practice, mentoring, and life skills training. The Foundation is also involved in projects such as "Water Creates Life" (which focuses on building water wells), in order that girls are able to spend their days in the classroom rather than tending to the basic needs of life that are so often taken for granted. Additionally, STAND4ED responds to the needs of women and girls living in poverty by providing opportunities to be self suffcient and providing a voice and shedding light upon their struggles. Together, these efforts will increase attendance in school and empower women and girls, that all citizens in a community are able to contribute to and benefit from the opportunities of an improved life.
Women make up half of the world's population yet represent a staggering 70% of the world's poor. For the millions of women living in poverty, their lives are a litany of injustice, discrimination, and obstacles which stand in the way of achieving the basic needs of good health, safe childbirth, education, and employment. Overcoming these inequalities and ensuring that women benefit from development requires that the needs and desires of women are not only taken into account, but that they are also placed front and centre.
